Channeling obsession into art… Tommie Ortega’s photography is a collection of softly conservative natural images to enhanced abstracts, and escalating emotional journeys. This includes simple objects woven into unlimited possibilities, affected with glow, shadow, and dimension. Her work has been displayed at Ruta Maya, Café Java, 1920's, and Starbuck's. She has photographed poets for the Austin International Poetry Festival, Austin Poetry in the Arts, and the Austin Poetry Society. Her miniature dachshund, Gucci Bella, is her most willing model, and adorns an entire photo, note card, and product line in addition to sending out a regular newsletter for her pet fan club. Obsessed with the intensity of possibilities, colors and comics of Gucci Bella, Tommie embraces and enhances the visual details with a unique, creative perspective. Tommie has been performing poetry since 1986. She studied literature and language at UT San Antonio and moved to Austin in 1990 where she was quickly embraced by local poetry groups with featured performances at many local venues. Some of her published pieces are included in Di Verse City, In the Company of Women, Poesia Y Calle, The Glass Eye, and the Cancer Poetry Project. Her poetry includes over 50 local, national, and e-zine publications. Her poetry, art, and photography continue to be an evolution of creative ideas. Use the links at the left to visit her site.
